Laser technology used: Alexandrite & Nd:YAG

At Derma Medical Clinic, we use the GentleMax Pro Plus®. This combines two wavelengths: the Alexandrite laser (755 nm) and the Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm). The wavelength used depends on skin type, hair color, and treatment area.

The Alexandrite laser is particularly suitable for lighter skin with dark hair. The concentrated laser energy is absorbed by the melanin (skin pigment). The Nd:YAG laser penetrates deeper into the skin and is preferably used for darker skin types. The GentleMax Pro Plus® is clinically tested, considered safe and effective in application, and is FDA-approved.

Special features:

  • High-performance medical laser
  • Two dedicated wavelengths
  • Clinically established gold standard

Treatment duration, sessions & subscriptions

Treatment with the high-performance medical laser takes 30 to 90 minutes per session, depending on the area. For sustainable hair reduction, 6 to 10 treatments are usually necessary, with an interval of at least 6 to 8 weeks between appointments. Energy, pulse duration, and spot size are individually determined and medically controlled.

For multiple sessions, we offer subscriptions with a price advantage:
With a 4-session subscription, you receive 10%, with an 8-session subscription, 15% discount on the total price. In the personal consultation, we clarify which procedure is best for your skin.

How does hair removal with a high-performance medical laser work?

The hair pigment melanin absorbs the laser energy directly at the hair root. The prerequisite for successful treatment: Sufficient pigment must be present. For very light, gray, or reddish hair, laser treatments have limited effectiveness.

Important before treatment:

Shave the treatment area 24 – 48 hours before the appointment. Please do not wax, epilate, or pluck, as this removes the hair root as the target of the laser energy.

Avoid direct sunlight, tanning bed visits, and self-tanners for at least 4 weeks before and after treatment.

When is laser hair removal suitable?

  • for stubble, razor burn, or ingrown hairs
  • for bothersome body hair
  • for the desire for smooth skin without constant shaving, waxing, or epilation
  • for sensitive skin that reacts irritably to conventional hair removal methods
  • for the desire for permanent hair reduction, performed gently and professionally

Long-term cost-benefit advantage

  • fewer sessions than with conventional devices
  • stable results
  • low relapse rate

Treatment

First, a skin cosmetic assessment is carried out: We analyze your skin type, moles and birthmarks, the hair, and clarify together which regions should be treated. Then the laser treatment begins.

Integrated dynamic skin cooling (DCD™)

The GentleMax Pro Plus® high-performance medical laser sends controlled light pulses into the skin. These heat the hair root without damaging the surrounding tissue. If the hair is in the growth phase, it is permanently scarred. The integrated dynamic skin cooling (DCD™) actively protects the skin surface from each laser pulse. We can work with higher energy, with good tolerability at the same time.

At Derma Medical Clinic, we rely on state-of-the-art laser technology:

The GentleMax Pro Plus® was specially developed for use in dermatological specialist centers and has been established on the market for over 25 years. The technology is now used worldwide. The treatment is carried out under medical responsibility, with appropriate documentation and aftercare!

How many sessions are needed?

The laser energy only affects intact hair roots. Since the hair must be in the active growth phase, several sessions are necessary. Usually 6 to 10 treatments at intervals of several weeks. The exact rhythm depends on the region to be treated, the hair density, and the individual hair cycle.

What effect can be expected?

  • After each session, the treated hairs fall out, they become thinner overall and grow back more slowly.
  • A complete hair stop is not medically guaranteed. A significant, long-lasting hair reduction is quite possible, especially with dark hair.
  • The skin remains smoother and more cared for, irritations are reduced without daily shaving.
  • Reliable, sustainable results

What Does the Laser Hair Removal Process Look Like?

Initial consultation & assessment

First, the dermatologist analyzes your skin and hair structure. Our skin therapist will discuss with you whether the prerequisites for successful laser hair removal are met (e.g., dark hair).

Preparation of the skin

Important: The areas to be treated must be freshly shaved (ideally 24-48 hours before the appointment). Please do not wax, epilate, or pluck, as otherwise the hair root, which the laser targets, will be missing.

Laser treatment

The laser energy is transferred to the hair roots. The hair roots are gently scarred. The treatment is well tolerated, a slight feeling of warmth or tingling is possible, but usually not painful.

Care & aftercare

After the treatment, there may be slight redness or a feeling of warmth, similar to a mild sunburn. We will give you specific instructions for care afterwards.

Hair removal in our clinic is carried out by a specialized skin therapist, in close consultation with our experienced dermatologists. In this way, we ensure that every treatment is not only cosmetically high-quality, but also makes sense for skin health.

All three have many years of experience in the field of aesthetic dermatology and work hand in hand, with a keen sense for natural results and individually tailored treatments.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal

How does laser hair removal work?

During laser hair removal, bundled light is directed specifically into the hair root. The pigment located there absorbs the energy, weakening the hair root without damaging the surrounding skin.

What is the difference between laser and IPL?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a flash lamp technology that works with broadly scattered light. It is often used in cosmetics.
A medical laser, on the other hand, works with a single, highly focused wavelength – making it more precise, intense, and penetrating deeper into the skin.

This means:

  • The laser specifically targets the hair root, making it more effective
  • Fewer sessions are usually necessary
  • The method is better suited for denser or deep-seated dark hair

IPL may be less reliable for very light hair or dark skin – here, the laser usually offers more safety and depth of action.

What does a skin therapist do and what is the difference to a beautician?

A skin therapist specializes in the professional care and accompanying treatment of skin problems such as acne, rosacea or pigment disorders. In contrast to the classic beautician, she works closely with dermatologists and uses modern treatment methods as well as medically coordinated active ingredients. In the Derma Medical Clinic, each application is carried out by a qualified skin therapist, individually tailored to skin type and skin condition.

Who is laser hair removal suitable for?

The method works particularly well for dark body hair. Thanks to modern laser technology, however, treatments are also possible for darker skin types; an individual assessment is carried out in advance during the consultation.

Which parts of the body can be treated with laser?

Typical areas are:

  • Face (e.g., upper lip, chin)
  • Armpits
  • Legs and arms
  • Bikini line and intimate area
  • Back and chest

The method can also be useful for ingrown hairs or razor burn.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Most people find the treatment well tolerated. Depending on the skin area, a slight pulling or feeling of warmth may occur, comparable to a fine rubber band snapping. Integrated cooling provides additional comfort.

How many sessions are needed?

Since not all hairs grow at the same time, several sessions are necessary – usually 6 to 8 treatments at intervals of 4-6 weeks. In this way, all active hair roots can be captured one after the other.

How long does the effect of laser hair removal last?

A significant and long-lasting hair reduction is possible with dark hair. In some cases, individual hairs grow back after some time – usually finer and less noticeable. Refreshments can be made if necessary.

What should I do before the laser treatment?

The skin should be freshly shaved on the day of treatment, please do not wax, epilate, or pluck. Avoid intense sun, tanning beds, or self-tanners in the days before the appointment.

What should I know after laser hair removal?

The skin can react sensitively. Avoid the following for a few days:

  • Sun & tanning beds
  • Sauna & sports
  • Peelings or irritating care

We recommend soothing care and consistent sun protection.

What is the GentleMax Pro Plus® Laser?

The GentleMax Pro Plus® is a medical laser system for permanent hair reduction. It enables two proven laser wavelengths in one device and is used worldwide in dermatological practices. The method is FDA-approved and clinically tested.

Why is the GentleMax Pro Plus® considered the gold standard in laser hair removal?

The high-performance medical laser is considered safe and gentle on the skin. The selection of the appropriate wavelength enables the treatment of different skin and hair types. The application is also suitable for sensitive skin.

Which lasers are used in the GentleMax Pro Plus®?

The GentleMax Pro Plus® includes two laser systems: the Alexandrite laser (755 nm) for lighter skin with darker hair and the Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) for darker skin types. The selection is made with specialist medical support and individually.

Is the treatment suitable for light and dark skin?

Thanks to the combination of both wavelengths, laser hair removal can be carried out on both light and dark skin. What is important is the professional setting of the system and a prior skin and hair analysis.

Who performs the treatment?

Hair removal with the high-performance medical laser is carried out by certified skin and laser therapists (or Certified Skin Therapists) and medically supervised. In this way, we ensure that skin type, treatment parameters, and aftercare are professionally coordinated.
