10 questions for Dr. med. univ. Martina Tröbinger
Why did you choose dermatology and not another specialty?
For me, dermatology combines medicine and external appearance. The skin is not only the largest organ, but also a reflection of health, aging processes and emotions. From the beginning, I have been fascinated by the fact that you can not only help patients symptomatically, but also see changes directly – functionally as well as aesthetically. This versatility of diagnostic depth, surgical possibilities and aesthetic fine-tuning is unique to me.
You are the aesthetic director of Derma Medical Clinic. What fascinates you about aesthetic medicine?
For me, aesthetic medicine does not mean “change at any price”, but rather bringing out and enhancing what is already there. I am fascinated by the possibility of achieving natural freshness and harmony with medical knowledge and a trained eye. When patients look rested, healthy and self-confident, without immediately recognizing that they have been treated, that is aesthetic medicine for me.
I am currently seeing a trend away from wrinkle-free towards freshness, skin quality, glow and naturalness in the result. This trend appeals to me very much, and I support my patients in this.
Your focus is on laser medicine. How did you embark on this path – and what role do experience and continuous training play?
Modern laser medicine convinces me because it is so versatile. It allows you to influence skin structures in a targeted manner. And often minimally invasive and with short downtimes. Experience plays a major role, because lasers are not “one-fits-all” solutions. Continuous training is a matter of course for me, as technologies, indications and combination possibilities are constantly evolving.
In your opinion, what are the decisive advantages of laser medicine over surgical skin tightening?
Laser medicine makes skin improvement and tightening possible without incisions, scars or longer downtimes. It stimulates the body’s own collagen formation and sustainably improves the overall skin quality. This is a great advantage for many patients. Especially when they want natural results and hardly want to interrupt their everyday life.
Is there any feedback from your daily work that has particularly stuck in your mind?
I am particularly touched by feedback such as: “I look like myself again – just more rested.” or “no one noticed anything, everyone just asked me if I was on vacation.” When people tell me that they feel comfortable in their own reflection again without anything looking “done”, that confirms my approach.
Surgical dermatology, aesthetics and classical dermatology are closely interlinked in your work. Why is this holistic view of the skin so important to you?
The skin cannot be divided into individual disciplines. Inflammatory diseases, skin aging, scars, tumor surgery or aesthetic desires influence each other. A holistic view enables individually adapted therapy concepts – always with a focus on skin health and long-term results.
Are there typical situations in your daily practice where you notice: This is exactly why I do this job?
Yes, there are. For example, when patients gain confidence after initial uncertainty and then leave with a smile. Many patients have been coming to me regularly for many years and this «growing old together» always touches me.
This combination of professional challenge and human closeness makes the job fulfilling for me every day.
When patients go home after the first appointment: What should they ideally be able to say about you – professionally and personally?
Professionally, I wish they would say: “I feel competently and honestly advised.” Personally: “I was taken seriously and understood.”
Many patients want to see visible improvements with the least possible downtime. How do you manage this balancing act between effectiveness and suitability for everyday use?
Through modern treatment concepts such as laser, biostimulators, PRP or gently dosed filler. Often it is combinations in several small steps that bring sustainable results.
Natural results play a central role in your work, also in skin tightening and lip aesthetics. When is a result "right" for you?
A result is right for me when it emphasizes the personality instead of changing it. When proportions are maintained, facial expressions are lively and the skin quality can be improved as a whole. Ideally, the environment does not ask “What was done?”, but says: “You look good.”
