Picoseconds: extremely short laser pulses
The Pico laser delivers energy into the skin in trillionths of a second. Its ultra-short pulses break pigments into tiny fragments, which are then cleared by the body. A key advantage is the minimal heat exposure of the surrounding tissue. Compared with older laser systems, the treatment is particularly gentle on the skin.
The Pico laser belongs to the high-performance class of modern laser systems.

Tailored to the colour and pigment
Tattoo inks vary greatly in composition. Pigment density and depth must be considered for every treatment. The laser parameters can be adjusted to virtually any skin type, pigment type and colour, and the characteristics of the tattoo. These individual settings are a major advantage of Pico laser treatment.
Preparation and aftercare for tattoo removal
Avoid intense sun exposure on the treatment area for around four weeks before your appointment. Tanned skin increases the risk of unwanted side effects.
Your skin needs consistent UV protection for at least four weeks after treatment. Depending on the area, you can protect it with clothing or a dressing. We recommend SPF 50 for exposed skin. Further care depends on how your skin responds.

Why choose us for Pico laser tattoo removal?
Modern picosecond technology
Extremely short, powerful pulses break tattoo pigments into very small fragments while minimising the energy affecting surrounding tissue. Picosecond lasers are among the most effective technologies used in professional tattoo removal.
Extensive experience
At Derma Medical Clinic, treatment is performed by our experienced, qualified skin therapist. Before each session, we assess how your tattoo responded to the previous treatment and adapt the next steps accordingly.
Dermatological expertise
We are a specialist dermatology practice. Skin reactions, existing scars and changes can be assessed directly by a doctor when needed. The close integration of aesthetic skin therapy and dermatology at Derma Medical Clinic is a distinctive feature of our approach in the region.
Personal support
Tattoo removal can take several months. We support you throughout the entire process, explain every step and provide specific skin-care advice after each session.

Treatment process
Initial consultation and assessment
We consider your skin and tattoo, including its colour and size and any previous laser treatments. We discuss whether you want complete removal or fading for a cover-up.
Individual treatment planning
We determine the laser parameters and treatment intervals. For multicoloured tattoos, the approach may change during treatment because different pigments can respond at different rates.
Treatment and support
Short laser pulses are applied to the tattoo. Immediately afterwards, the skin may appear whitish, red or swollen. We provide clear instructions for the following days.
Review and adjustment
There should be at least eight weeks between sessions. Before each further appointment, we reassess how much the tattoo has faded and how the skin has responded. The laser settings are adjusted accordingly.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Pico laser tattoo removal
How does tattoo removal with a Pico laser work?
The Pico laser produces picosecond light pulses. The concentrated energy reaches the ink pigments in the skin and breaks them down into tiny particles. These fragments are gradually cleared through the body’s natural processes. The short pulses and targeted energy limit damage to the skin in the treatment area. Several sessions are needed for complete tattoo removal.
What are the advantages over conventional tattoo lasers?
Picosecond lasers use much shorter pulses than conventional nanosecond lasers. Heat acts on the surrounding tissue for an exceptionally short time. Benefits include faster recovery, a gentler effect on the skin and greater effectiveness for different pigment types. Medical Pico laser treatment is not comparable to treatment using cosmetic devices.
Why should an experienced skin therapist perform the treatment?
Tattoo inks, skin characteristics and pigment densities respond differently to laser energy. The energy, wavelength and other parameters must be individually adjusted. The skin’s response to previous sessions is also important. This requires experience and comprehensive qualifications in medical laser procedures.
How many sessions will I need?
We generally expect around 3–10 sessions. A small tattoo with little pigment may respond faster. Professional, multicoloured or very dense tattoos can take longer. It is rarely possible to give a definitive number before treatment starts.
Why should there be at least eight weeks between treatments?
After a laser session, the body begins clearing the fragmented ink pigments. This takes several weeks. The skin also needs time to recover and regenerate. Shorter intervals do not speed up or improve the result.
Can coloured tattoos be removed?
Many coloured tattoo pigments can be treated successfully with appropriately adjusted Pico laser wavelengths. However, the response varies depending on the colour and quality of the ink. Before the first session, we analyse the colours and assess what result can realistically be expected.
Can a tattoo be completely removed?
Many tattoos can be substantially or completely removed. However, guaranteeing complete removal would be misleading. The outcome depends on the ink composition, amount of pigment, existing scars and other factors.
With multicoloured tattoos, some pigments may be persistent. A more reliable assessment usually becomes possible early in the course of treatment.
Can I have my tattoo lightened rather than removed?
For a cover-up, an existing tattoo often only needs to be faded enough for the new design to be applied cleanly. This may require fewer laser sessions than complete removal.
Is Pico laser tattoo removal painful?
You can feel the laser pulses. Many patients compare them to brief, hot pinpricks or a rubber band snapping against the skin. Sensation also depends on the body area and individual pain sensitivity. We discuss the pain-relief options we recommend.
What skin reactions can occur after treatment?
Redness, swelling, temporary whitening, crusting, pinpoint bleeding or small blisters can occur. Lighter or darker pigmentation is also possible. These reactions are usually temporary and resolve on their own. Scarring is a less common risk of professionally performed laser treatment. We explain the risks thoroughly before your first session at Derma Medical Clinic.
What should I do before treatment?
Keep your skin untanned for around four weeks before your appointment. Avoid strong direct sunlight and tanning beds. Tell us about previous laser treatments, unusual scarring or skin conditions in the tattoo area.
What is important after Pico laser treatment?
Protect the treated area consistently from direct sunlight for several weeks. Minimise irritation while the skin heals. Our skin therapist provides suitable skin-care advice and detailed aftercare instructions after each session.
Can the Pico laser also remove pigmentation spots?
We also use picosecond technology for various pigmentation changes. The requirements for these treatments differ somewhat from those for tattoo ink removal.
