Biostimulators in Zurich
Biostimulators stimulate the skin to renew itself from within. At Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich, we use modern biostimulators when tissue has lost firmness and stability and natural rejuvenation is desired.

Regenerative treatment to improve skin texture
Classic fillers restore volume. Biostimulators work differently: they encourage the tissue to become more active again and produce new, firming collagen. Skin texture improves gradually. The tissue appears firmer and overall more even. Which form of biostimulation makes sense depends on your skin condition and the desired treatment outcome. We discuss all of this during your initial consultation at Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich.

When the skin loses density and stability
Biostimulators may be considered when the skin appears looser and drier and early signs of ageing appear, such as thinner tissue, slightly blurred contours (jawline and cheekbone) and fine lines. In short: when the skin has lost internal structure. The treatment supports the tissue in producing more collagen and elastin again and gradually becoming firmer.
Which approach makes sense depends on skin quality, volume loss and the treatment goal. The basis for this is a precise skin analysis and sound specialist medical advice.

What are biostimulators?
Biostimulators are substances that trigger a controlled biological response in the tissue: fibroblasts are activated and collagen fibres are newly formed. The skin renews itself from within.
Established active ingredients include, among others, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and polynucleotides. These have been used in aesthetic medicine for years and their effects are well documented. They differ in their effect, longevity and depending on the area of use.
When is an assessment for treatment with biostimulators useful?
- for lax skin with reduced firmness
- for volume loss (sunken cheeks, temples)
- for crêpey wrinkles
- for thin skin
- if a regenerative treatment is desired
We assess whether collagen-stimulating therapy makes sense and, if so, which substance is suitable.

Treatment with biostimulators
Which therapeutic approach is used?
The biostimulators are placed into specific tissue layers. Depending on the product, several sessions are required and are planned at fixed intervals. The effect builds up over several weeks. The tissue becomes firmer, denser and tighter.

Who is an assessment and treatment with biostimulators suitable for?
For example, if the skin texture has visibly changed or the tissue is losing stability:
- with progressive skin laxity
- with volume loss in the midface or lower face
- with thinning skin
- if a natural build-up over time is desired
- if surgical procedures (facelifts) are not desired
What Happens During the Examination?
Before treatment, we examine the skin and tissue in detail—for example skin quality, volume distribution and tissue thickness. Based on the examination, we determine which biostimulator is suitable and how the treatment will be structured over time.
What happens during the treatment?
The biostimulator is introduced into the tissue using fine needles or cannulas. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and, if needed, with local anaesthesia. Mild irritation or a feeling of pressure is possible and usually subsides quickly.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about treatment with biostimulators
What is the difference between biostimulators and fillers?
Fillers such as hyaluronic acid provide immediate volume. Biostimulators, on the other hand, stimulate the body’s own processes—especially the formation of new collagen. The effect develops gradually, from within. The results of treatment with biostimulators are very natural.
How long do the effects of biostimulators last?
The effect develops over weeks and, depending on the product and individual skin response, can last many months to over a year. If the effect wears off, top-ups are possible at any time. If an immediate effect is desired, we can combine the treatment with fillers if appropriate.
When Are Initial Results Visible?
Because collagen build-up in the skin takes some time, changes are not visible immediately. You will usually notice the first improvements in skin firmness after a few weeks. The full effect develops over time.
Is the treatment painful?
You may feel slight pressure or tightness directly during the treatment. If needed, we can pre-treat the injection sites with a numbing cream. This is usually not necessary, as we use very fine needles. After treatment, temporary swelling or tenderness to pressure may occur.
Are there any risks or side effects?
As with any minimally invasive treatment, redness, swelling or small bruises are possible. Further side effects are very rare when performed by a specialist physician. As part of your consultation at Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich, we will inform you about all eventualities.
Can biostimulators be combined with other treatments?
Depending on the treatment goal and your preferences, we can combine biostimulators with hyaluronic acid or device-based procedures at Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich—either within one session or alternating, depending on the skin situation.
Which facial areas are biostimulators particularly suitable for?
Biostimulators are mainly used in the midface, on the cheeks, along the jawline or in the lower face. Other areas of application include the eye area, the neck and the décolletage. The choice depends on skin density, volume, the type of wrinkles and individual anatomy.
