Treating red capillaries in Zurich
Red capillaries on the face are permanently dilated, fine blood vessels. They often appear around the nose, cheeks, or chin and are medically known as telangiectasia. Over time and due to environmental influences, these can intensify and will persist without treatment.

Modern laser treatment for capillaries and redness
Red capillaries on the face affect the aesthetics, making the complexion appear uneven. These mostly fine vessels are particularly noticeable around the nose or cheeks. The capillaries can intensify due to environmental and lifestyle factors, as well as over time. With modern laser therapy, these can be closed in a skin-friendly manner. Redness is visibly reduced. Additionally, we stabilize the overall appearance of the skin with supplementary measures and customized skincare.
The number of sessions required depends on skin type, vessel structure, severity, and other individual factors. A specialist examination is always the foundation of the treatment.

What are red capillaries on the face?
Red capillaries on the face (medically: telangiectasia) are permanently dilated, superficial blood vessels. These are visible through the skin. Typical areas include the sides of the nose or the cheeks.
Triggers include genetic predisposition, sun exposure, temperature fluctuations, or weak connective tissue. Once dilated, capillaries do not retract on their own. When there is pronounced vascular patterning and persistent redness, the skin condition is also referred to as couperose.
Who can benefit from assessment and treatment?
- If small red veins appear for the first time or become visibly more pronounced.
- If the redness persists permanently.
- If you also experience burning, a sensation of heat, or skin sensitivity.
A specialist examination is necessary to reliably differentiate between individual vessels, couperose, and inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea.

Have red capillaries treated
When is an examination useful:
- If you have recurring, painful nodules or abscesses in your armpits, groin, or under your breasts
- If the nodules burst, forming fistulas (tracts under the skin) or scars
- If symptoms recur despite repeated treatments
A specialist assessment before treatment is important to distinguish red capillaries from other skin changes.
What examinations are performed before laser treatment?
Your skin will be examined by a specialist. We assess, for example:
- Details and differences between telangiectasia, broad vascular patterns, couperose, and skin conditions such as rosacea
- Assessment of the location and nature of the vessels
Which therapeutic approach is used?
- Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) for treating visible vessels. Accompanying recommendations for skin protection and prevention for a stable treatment result.
What does the treatment look like?
Your treatment depends on the type of vessels, their depth, and extent. We check whether it involves individual telangiectasias, couperose, or a variant of rosacea, and how sensitively your skin reacts overall.
How are red capillaries treated?
An effective method for visible capillaries is laser therapy with the Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm). The laser light is absorbed by the red blood pigment, causing the vessel to heat up and close. The surrounding tissue remains largely unaffected. Redness visibly decreases after healing.

What is the procedure for treating red capillaries on the face?
Personal consultation & skin analysis
We determine how long the capillaries have been visible, how the redness behaves, and whether specific triggers play a role. The affected areas are then examined.
Treatment planning
We discuss the treatment, the intensity of the laser settings, and how many sessions are required.
Laser treatment
Treatment with the Nd:YAG laser takes only a few minutes. A brief, temporary sensation of warmth or a slight prickling is possible, but skin anesthesia is generally not necessary. Slight redness may occur immediately after the treatment.
Follow-up & further sessions (if appropriate)
We plan follow-up appointments based on the findings. Some vessels react immediately, while others fade over days or weeks. The treatment is performed at the Derma Medical Clinic by experienced dermatology specialists.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about treating red capillaries
What is the difference between couperose, rosacea, and red capillaries?
Red capillaries (telangiectasia) are permanently dilated fine blood vessels. Couperose describes a vascular-emphasized skin appearance with a tendency toward redness, without inflammation. Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with additional symptoms such as papules or pustules. This distinction is important for a customized and promising treatment.
How many laser treatments are appropriate?
The number of laser treatments for red capillaries depends on the number, the diameter of the vessels, and the location (nose, large areas of the cheeks, etc.). In many cases, one to three sessions are sufficient. Since every case is different, an individual specialist consultation is a prerequisite for meaningful planning of the laser treatment.
Why is the Nd:YAG laser particularly suitable for red capillaries on the face?
With its 1064 nm wavelength, this laser also reaches vessels located in deeper skin layers. The laser energy is absorbed by the red blood pigment (hemoglobin), and the vessel is cauterized. The cauterized vessels are metabolized, and the redness visibly decreases.
Is the treatment painful?
The procedure is very gentle on the skin. The laser we use at the Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich is one of the latest devices on the market. A slight prickling is possible, as is a feeling of warmth during and after the application, but generally no pain. If required, pre-treatment with an anesthetic cream is possible, but usually not necessary.
Do red capillaries return after laser treatment?
The treated vessels do not return. However, new capillaries may develop over time if there is a corresponding predisposition. Touch-up treatments are possible if needed. Depending on the skin condition, customized skincare (more sun protection, more moisture, specific active ingredients) may be advisable. At the Derma Medical Clinic in Zurich, we will advise you individually on this.
