With a lip flip, we shape the lip contour without building up volume. Botulinum toxin relaxes a small area of the circular muscle around the mouth. What is a botulinum toxin lip flip?
During a lip flip, we inject a small amount of a muscle relaxant into specific areas above the upper lip. This relaxes the edge of the lip slightly so that it can turn upwards a little. The upper lip “unfolds” and appears more accentuated without any additional volume (e.g. hyaluronic acid) being injected.
What is the difference between a lip flip and lip filler?
We do not use fillers for a lip flip. The active ingredient botulinum toxin influences muscle tension and makes a larger area of the natural red of the lip visible. The contour is visually emphasized. Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, changes the volume and, if desired, the shape of the lip.
When is the effect of a lip flip visible?
The effect sets in gradually within a few days. The result continues to develop and can usually be fully assessed after about one to two weeks.
How long does a botulinum toxin lip flip last?
The effect is temporary. Because the muscles around the mouth are particularly active, a lip flip lasts about two to three months. The actual duration may vary from person to person. Touch-ups are possible at any time.
Do the lips look bigger after a lip flip?
Because the edge of the upper lip can turn slightly outwards, more of the red of the lip becomes visible. As a result, the upper lip can appear slightly fuller.

A lip flip and the botulinum toxin treatment of a gummy smile are different applications. With a gummy smile, the aim is to subtly influence the movement of the upper lip when smiling. Can a lip flip affect speaking or drinking?
Botulinum toxin affects the muscles of the lip region. If the effect is too strong, pursing the lips, drinking through a straw or certain movements may temporarily feel unusual. We keep this risk low with conservative, individually adjusted dosing.
